Podgorica is among the destinations drawing a sharp rise in flight searches from Indian travellers, according to Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2027 report. Searches for the Montenegrin capital increased 236% year on year, putting it sixth on the company’s top 10 trending list.

The ranking is based on increases in flight searches recorded between 1 January and 17 June 2026 for travel throughout 2026, compared with the same period in 2025. Skyscanner then curated the list with additional factors, including suitability for leisure travel.

Ahead of Podgorica were Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, up 748%; Rupsi in India, up 502%; Okinawa in Japan, up 279%; Malvan in India, up 258%; and Tirana in Albania, up 237%. Sandakan in Malaysia (189%), Pokhara in Nepal (166%), Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei (139%) and Phu Quoc in Vietnam (133%) completed the top 10.

The report says 58% of Indians plan to travel abroad more in 2027, even as value shapes decisions. Fifty-six percent intend to spend more on flights and 44% on accommodation, while 67% have changed or considered changing a holiday destination because another option offered better value. Montenegro does not appear on the separate best-value list, which ranks economy return fares that fell the most, led by Jaisalmer in India with a 43% drop.

Skyscanner identified seven trends from its own data and a OnePoll survey of 2,000 Indian travellers in July 2026. They include music-inspired trips, slower digital disconnection, fitness holidays, destination-only shopping, shared celebrations before weddings, journeys inspired by history and mythology, and choices shaped by currency strength. On fitness travel, 91% said they were likely to book a hotel offering breakfast options designed around nutritional performance, and 53% actively look for fitness facilities.

Neel Ghose, Travel Trends and Destinations Expert at Skyscanner India, said Indian travellers are entering 2027 with a stronger appetite to explore while becoming more considered about how they spend their time and money. The company also reported that 87% of Indians are confident using AI to plan and book travel.
